The craze of audiences for various stand-up comedies has been highly increasing these days. While there have been innumerable comedians out these days, only a few lucky ones can mark their performances amongst the audiences.

Amongst these popular faces, the stand-up comedian, Varun Grover holds a separate fanbase. He has not only been entertaining the audiences with his classic comical skills but also with his poems and writings. For those who are unaware of his other talents, he has been embraced with the Best Lyricist award at the 63rd National Film Awards in 2015!!

Apart from being a great lyricist, he is also the one who is responsible for writing the popular web series, Sacred Games. Hailing from Himachal Pradesh, he was born into a Punjabi family.

He collaborated into the independent music space in 2017 and released “Beete Dino Ke Geet”. So, let’s have a look at some of the classic works of this comedian as the lyricist :

Sonchiriya – all songs except Naina Na Maar

Starring the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, this movie received a positive response from the audience. The film included a list of 7 beautiful songs whose lyrics were provided by Varun Grover except for one song named, Naina na maar which was by Ashok Mizaj Badr.

Sui Dhaga – all songs

The Bollywood drama film, Sui dhaga starring Anushka Sharma and Varun Dhawan in the lead roles was praised by the audiences for its exceptional plot.

While we all loved various elements of the film right from the plot to cast, the film included a list of 5 songs out of which, the titular song “sui dhaga” was loved the most. The lyrics for all the songs in the movie were provided by Varun Grover.

Newton – Panchi Udd Gaya

Starring Rajkumar Rao in the lead role, the film was universally acclaimed. Though the film received a positive response and managed a good collection at the box office as well, it included a list of some unpopular songs out of which, the lyrics to the song Panchi Udd Gaya were given by Varun Grover.

Udta Punjab – the title track

Now, this film is the one which has a range of popular songs which still reside in the hearts of people. Out of these, the titular track named Ud-Daa Punjab’s lyrics were provided by Varun Grover.

Fan – Jabra fan

Remember the classic film of SRK where he played a double role, both as a star and a fan? Well, the film included various soundtracks out of which the popular song, Jabra fan was the one which became quite famous amongst the fans. The lyrics to this song were given by Varun Grover.

Masaan – Tu kisi rail si

Now, this particular film holds a special place in this entire list! The reason behind the same is the fact that the comedian Varun Grover was not only responsible for providing the lyrics to a song but was also the writer of the film.

A song in this brilliant film, “Tu kisi rail si” gained immense popularity amongst the audiences and remains one of the popular tracks in our playlist!

Dum Laga Ke Haisha – all songs

The film Dum Laga Ke Haisha was one of the masterpieces of actor Ayushmann Khurrana. A complete entertainment package film, this movie was well praised for its every element.

The songs in the film also gained praises from the audiences and are a delight to the ears. Admit it or not, we still are in love with the song, Moh Moh Ke Dhaage which remains one of the best songs to date. The film included 7 songs in total and lyrics to all those songs were provided by Varun Grover.

Gangs of Wasseypur – Both Installments

The Indian crime film, Gangs of Wasseypur is one of the best films made to date. The diversity of characters and cast in both the installments certainly couldn’t help the audiences to get off their eyes from the film!

Apart from having a great story plot and characters, both the installments of this film had a wide range of songs included in the film. The lyrics to these songs were provided by both Piyush Mishra and Varun Grover.

Out of them all, 17 songs were written by Varun Grover including tracks like Kaala Rey, Aabroo, Jiya Tu, O Womaniya Live, etc.

That Girl in Yellow Boots

The Indian thriller film starring Kalki Koechlin in the lead role was a work by Anurag Kashyap. Opened to a positive response, the film is said to have comedian Varun Grover as the lyricist to the songs.
