Deepika Padukone, who checked into the French Riviera on Monday, began her jury duty a day later, at the opening of the 75th edition of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. Deepika Padukone, has been a regular at Cannes for the last few years. For years, she had been representing make-up giant L’Oreal at the film festival. However, this is her debut as a member of the jury. On Tuesday evening, the actress was pictured at the Cannes opening ceremony, along with fellow jury members Rebecca Hall, Noomi Rapace and Italian actor-director Jasmine Trinca, as well as directors Asghar Farhadi, Ladj Ly, Jeff Nichols and Joachim Trier.

For the ceremony, Deepika Padukone wore a shirt with tropical prints and a pair of emerald green pants – designed by Sabyasachi.

Late filmmaker Mrinal Sen was the first Indian to serve as a jury member of Cannes back in 1982, followed by director Mira Nair in 1990.Author Arundhati Roy was a Cannes jury member for the festival’s 2000 edition, followed by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in 2003, Nandita Das in 2005, Sharmila Tagore in 2009, Shekhar Kapur in 2010 and Vidya Balan in 2013.
At this year’s Cannes, Deepika Padukone leads the pack as a jury member. Other attendees include actors Pooja Hegde, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Nayanthara, Tamannaah Bhatia, Grammy winning composers AR Rahman and Rickey Kej and R Madhavan whose film Rocketry: The Nambi Effect is set to premiere. TV stars Hina Khan and Helly Shah will also be in attendance. Akshay Kumar was also on the guest list. However, he had to cancel his trip after he contracted Covid-19 over the weekend.
