Raghuram Rajan Salary: Raghuram Rajan, former governor of the Reserve Bank of India, the regulator of the banking sector, has disclosed the salary he received while holding the post of governor. Raghuram Rajan told that while holding the post of RBI Governor, he used to get a monthly salary of Rs 4 lakh. Rajan said, more than the salary he was getting as RBI Governor, the government house he got was more important.
While talking in a podcast with YouTuber Raj Shamani, Raghuram Rajan said that he does not know the salary of the RBI Governor today, but during his time he used to get a salary of Rs 4 lakh. Raghuram Rajan said, but the biggest perk is the official house of the RBI Governor which is very big and the house of the RBI Governor is at a short distance from the house of the country’s veteran industrialist Dhirubhai Ambani in Malabar Hill.
Raghuram Rajan said, he once did the calculation, if this house is sold or given on lease like there is a long term lease with the port authority which gives Rs 450 crore. If you invest it, you can easily pay the salary of top RBI officials. When he was asked whether Rs 4 lakh salary is enough for the RBI Governor? So he said that he is similar to other government officials like Cabinet Secretary. He said that he does not get pension like other government officials. But medical facilities are available. He told that he also does not get pension.
Raghuram Rajan said that RBI Governors get more pension because they have been government officials. He told on the condition of anonymity that there was a governor who served the RBI and the government for a long time but he did not get pension because he was not a civil servant. Raghuram Rajan told that he does not need pension because he has a full time job.
Raghuram Rajan said that while holding the post of Governor, one gets a car as other facilities and also gets a lot of money for the maintenance of the house. Because this house is very old, it needs maintenance. He said that in a country like India, it is not appropriate to use luxury vehicles for government purposes.
