Wheat Production in India: India’s wheat production may break records this year. The Food Ministry estimates that due to more sowing and expectation of normal weather, 114 million tonnes of wheat can be produced in the country this year. This wheat production will be the highest ever in the current crop year 2023-24.

Rabi season sowing till 8th January will be done Complete

According to Food Corporation of India (FCI) Chairman and MD Ashok K Meena, sowing of Rabi season will be completed by January 8. By December 25, 2023, wheat had been sown in approximately 320.54 hectare area. Wheat production in the crop year 2022-23 (July to June) was about 11 crore tonnes, whereas in the previous year 10.77 crore tonnes of wheat was produced. According to Meena of Ashok, this year there will be more wheat cultivation. If the weather is favourable, the production will be around 114 million tonnes. The Agriculture Ministry also has the same estimate regarding this.

Sowing area also increased compared to last year

There is also an increase in the area under sowing of wheat crop as compared to last year. He said that in some states there is a shortage of one percent. But, that too will be completed in the first week of January. Meena said that the minimum support price (Wheat MSP) of wheat has been increased by 7 percent compared to last year. This year wheat will be purchased at Rs 2275 per quintal. Therefore, we have full hope that most of the farmers will sell their wheat to FCI only.

FCI is also providing wheat for Bharat Atta brand

The production of wheat on such a large scale is a matter of relief for the government because wheat was distributed in the open market from the stock of FCI and the government also took wheat for Bharat Atta brand. Due to this the stock of FCI was reduced. So far 59 lakh tonnes of wheat has been sold in the open market.
