Duplicity thy name is hypocrite Arvind Kejriwal, erstwhile Mini Mufflerman

The hypocrisy of erstwhile Mini Mufflerman, Arvind Kejriwal has crossed all limits in his nearly a decade long political career. A master liar, who rose to political heights after taking a high moral plank to remaining ‘Aam Aadmi’ all his life, turned out to be a classic hypocrite, Indian politics has ever witnessed. He speaks lies with ease and in the belief of their being gospel truth.
After dumping anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare, the former IRS officer plunged into politics and got stunning support in terms of seats in the Legislative Assembly of National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi on December 4, 2013. His AAP got 28 in the 70 member assembly and emerged as the second largest party after the BJP, which got 31 seats in the hung House.
So, the year 2013 was the beginning of Kejriwal’s hypocritical politics. Swearing by his children not to have any trunk with the Congress, he made his first U-turn by taking their outside support to form the government in Delhi. Then there was no ending to his down-scaling of stated positions on important issues. Justifying his changing stands, Kejriwal has mastered telling lies in the past ten years. A media caricature depicted his duplicity aptly by captions. ‘Sach mat dekho, Sach mat suno, Sach mat bolo’.
In the initial days of his government, an impression was sought to be created about him using his blue Wagon R as Chief Minister and abolishing Lal Bati culture. In fact, he did some file work in this classic vehicle and undertook important journeys by this. All this time hypocrisy was sprouting in his political character. And, interestingly the Wagon R became the causality of his duplicity after abandoning it for an official car, as it was stolen by the car lifters on October 12, 2017, only to be traced two days later. The Delhi Chief Minister is moving in a mega cavalcade now, much to the grandeur of any VIP. By that time, the muffler had also been given an unceremonious exit.
Soon after being designated as Chief Minister, he had promised not to take any security but with the passage of time, Kejriwal too became the ‘character’ encircled by security personnel. This was a hilarious turn of double standards, as he had refused to take the PSO from Delhi Police after being declared as CM. Now he is having Z category security cover. He had made another announcement of not moving to an official residence. This was worst type of public posturing to be Aam Aadmi, as on February 4, 2014, Kejriwal requested to Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor through his aide for two adjacent bungalows of 5-bedrooms each at Delhi’s Bhagwan Dass Road, although he had claimed that he wanted a humble accommodation to remain a commoner even after becoming Chief Minister. The request was immediately conceded to by the LG, paving way for the Aam Aadmi to enter the cozy VIP environment.
The man who has been pretending to be the human rights champion and votary of the freedom of speech touched the lowest depths of morality when his government issued a circular on May 6, 2015 against scribes and media houses. At that point of time, Kejriwal was a petitioner in the Supreme Court seeking the decriminalisation of defamation on the grounds that it violates the right to freedom of speech. Eventually, the Apex Court stayed the circular on filing defamation cases against media organisations for any news that causes damage to its reputation or that of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other ministers and asked him to explain why it was issued.
Downscaling from the high moral plank is a continuous melodrama of Kejriwal and there appears to be no end to it. His adversaries believe that the former mufflerman can go to any extent and speak anything that fulfills his political agenda. So far, the people have been getting swayed by his promises and assurances, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi terms as Revidi culture, but what next. Wait and watch is the best dictum.
