Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik inaugurates Men’s Hockey World Cup in Cuttack

The Hockey World Cup 2023 officially began on January 11th with a grand opening ceremony at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, the main venue of the tournament. The ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries from the world of hockey, as well as the Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, who has been instrumental in bringing the event to the state.

The ceremony began with the parade of nations, where all the participating teams marched into the stadium with their national flags. The teams were led by their respective captains and were greeted by loud cheers from the capacity crowd.

He further added, “We have made all necessary arrangements to make the tournament a success and we are confident that the teams and fans will have a memorable experience in Odisha. We invite hockey lovers from across the world to come and witness the best players in action and also experience the rich culture and heritage of our state.”

The ceremony concluded with the playing of the national anthem of India and the release of thousands of balloons into the sky. The ceremony was a spectacular event that set the tone for the tournament ahead and provided a fitting start to the tournament.

The tournament is being held across two venues in Odisha, the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, and the Odisha Hockey Stadium in Rourkela. The Kalinga Stadium, which is the main venue of the tournament, has a seating capacity of 15,000 and is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. The Odisha Hockey Stadium, on the other hand, has a seating capacity of 8,000 and is known for its excellent playing surface.

In addition to the on-field action, the tournament will also feature a number of off-field activities, including cultural events and exhibitions, aimed at promoting the game and showcasing the host nation’s rich culture. The tournament will also have a fan zone where fans can interact with each other and enjoy a variety of activities such as live music, food, and games.
