New Delhi
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz wore a blindfold at the G20 summit in New Delhi due to an injury he sustained while jogging in Potsdam. Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly welcomed Scholz at the Bharat Mandapam venue, where the two-day summit will be held.
This is the first time the G20 summit is being held under India’s chairmanship. The G20 was established in 1999 to maintain global financial stability by including middle-income countries. India took over the chairmanship of the G20 on December 1 last year, and around 200 G20-related meetings were held in 60 cities across the country.
The 18th G20 Summit in New Delhi will be the culmination of all G20 processes and meetings held throughout the year between ministers, senior officials, and civil society. The G20 Leaders’ Declaration will be adopted at the summit, outlining the leaders’ commitment to the priorities discussed during the relevant ministerial and working group meetings. The next G20 presidency is scheduled for Brazil in 2024, followed by South Africa in 2025.
