The ‘New Delhi Hall’ at the organization’s headquarters here was inaugurated on Tuesday ahead of next month’s SCO summit under the chairmanship of India. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has termed it as “Mini India”. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) consists of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India and Pakistan. Its secretariat is located in Beijing.
The buildings of the organization’s six founding members China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan already house the headquarters, highlighting the culture and unique characteristics of these countries. India has officially inaugurated the ‘New Delhi Hall’ ahead of the SCO summit, which is going to start through digital media from July 4. It may take some time for Pakistan to establish its own building.
I am delighted to inaugurate the New Delhi Hall at the SCO Secretariat today in the august presence of the SCO Secretary-General and other distinguished colleagues, Jaishankar said in the video message. I am particularly happy to mention that this is being done under India’s first SCO chairmanship. Jaishankar said that ‘The New Delhi Hall’ is like a “mini-India” in the SCO Secretariat and it showcases various aspects of Indian culture.
To give you a feel of the depth of India’s artistic tradition and cultural identity, the building has been designed with exquisite patterns and motifs representing the rich architectural craftsmanship found across India, he added. He said that the building, along with its traditional design, is also equipped with modern technologies to facilitate meetings in both physical and virtual formats.
He said that I am hopeful that the New Delhi Hall will prove to be a useful building for the SCO Secretariat, adding Indian colours and fragrances to the multicultural and multinational character of the SCO Secretariat. This hall will be a testimony to India’s commitment to promoting the essence of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ meaning the world is one family. He said that this hall would be useful in conducting meetings and activities of the secretariat which is increasing year by year.
