In Europe are strengthening the security of Jewish sites

Published:

Several European countries, most notably France and Germany, have announced that they will take steps to increase police protection of Jewish sites on their territory following the Hamas attack on Israel and the subsequent declaration of martial law by the Israeli authorities and Prime Minister Benjamin’s statement. Netanyahu that his country is practically in a full-scale war. The fears of a number of European governments are that all this could lead to an increase in anti-Semitic manifestations, writes Politico. French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanen said he had asked prefects in France to increase security at synagogues and Jewish schools and would convene consultations to assess the situation, although there were no reports of “any danger” in France at the moment. for the Jewish community.

In Germany, the Federal Government’s Commissioner for Anti-Semitism, Felix Klein, also warned of possible attacks on Jewish institutions, saying it was a “real danger, not a gray theory,” Spiegel quoted him as saying. “We know from our experience in the recent past that when the anti-Semitic terrorist organization Hamas attacks Israel, the danger to Jews in Germany increases,” Klein said.

Regarding the general threats of terrorist activity in Bulgaria, there is no increased risk and the level remains the lowest – third, which means that one should be careful. Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov told journalists at a briefing in the Council of Ministers.

Until now, two meetings of the National Counter-Terrorist Center, which is under the coordination of the National Security State Agency, have been held. Based on these two meetings, a report was drawn up and sent to the Minister of the Interior.

In relation to institutions that are generally at increased risk – airports, synagogues, railway stations, embassies, etc., the risk level of attention has been increased – yellow level, and measures have been taken by the institutions so as to reduce the dangers of terrorist acts.

In relation to all other institutions – state, etc. the level remains the lowest green, i.e. no increased risk.

“With colleagues from the services, we discussed that there is a serious danger of the development of the conflict and its escalation, which could lead in the medium term to an increase in refugee flows, to risks with the supply of raw materials. There are more general risks at the global level,” Denkov added.

Similar measures to protect the Jewish community were taken in Spain and Italy, local media reported.
