BJP, AAP argue over funding for Delhi’s makeover

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and AAP engaged in an exchange of words over Delhi’s beautification ahead of the G20 Summit. The Bharatiya Janata Party said whatever beautification or development work related to the G20 Summit that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Delhi government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) had done was thanks to funds from the centre.

Arvind Kejriwal the party’s leader has refuted the claims made by the BJP. The Aam Aadmi Party in quick response showed its shock that the “BJP had to pass the development work done by the city government as its own”.

Virendra Sachdeva Delhi’s BJP president claimed that even the wall painting concept was brought in by the centre first in the Pragati Maidan tunnel and later in the NDMC area. He said that it is regrettable that Kejriwal and his minister “ are shamelessly trying to steal credit for Delhi’s makeover by making social media posts”.

Virendra Sachdeva also challenged Minister Kejriwal to mention even one of the developments done by his government. “I challenge Delhi Minister Kejriwal to cite even one project of beautification or development done by his government in Delhi for G20 preparation,” he said.

Sourced said that the Delhi BJP will soon hold a press conference and present a full list of G20-related development projects in the city funded by the Centre. Delhi BJP spokespersons and office bearers will also provide information about the Modi government’s contributions to Delhi’s makeover through small brief videos.

The AAP, meanwhile on the other hand accused the BJP of playing dirty politics at a time when the county is going to host the G20 Summit.

The party said, “All money on PWD roads was spent by the PWD of Delhi government and all money on the MCD roads was spent by the MCD. The Central Government has only spent money wherever NDMC and NHAI roads stand. This level of politics is not going to help the country. We are about to host the G20 Summit where India is leading the charge, but the only thing BJP cares about is playing dirty politics.

The BJP has cited the construction of new roads, flyovers, and beautification projects in Delhi as evidence of the central government’s funding. The AAP, on the other hand, has pointed to the construction of new schools, hospitals, and other infrastructure projects as evidence of its own contribution.

The G20 summit is scheduled to be held in Delhi in September 2023. The summit is expected to bring together leaders from the world’s 20 largest economies to discuss various global issues. The makeover of Delhi is seen as an essential step in preparing the city for the summit.

It remains to be seen how the dispute over funding for the makeover will be resolved. However, it is clear that the BJP and the AAP are both keen to claim credit for the city’s transformation.
