Kolkata: More trouble seems to be mounting for Sujoy Krishna Bhadra who found himself in a sudden turn of events on Wednesday night. Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers, along with Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel, relocated Sujay Krishna Bhadra, one of the key accused in the multi-crore teachers’ recruitment scam in West Bengal. Late on Wednesday night, Sujay Krishna Bhadra, well-known as ‘Kalighat-er Kaku’ (Uncle from Kalighat) were transferred from the state-run SSKM Medical College & Hospital to the Centre-administered Joka ESI Hospital to conduct a voice sampling test for investigative purposes linked to the ongoing case.
Why was Sujay Krishna Bhadra escorted to Joka ESI?
The ED team accompanied by senior officer Mithilesh Kumar Mishra and Mukesh Kumar reached the cardiology department of SSKM Hospital at around 7:40 PM. Sujay Krishna Bhadra aka Kalighater Kaku was taken to Joka ESI in an ambulance at 9:20 PM. Followed by Sujoy Krishna Bhadra’s health assessment, voice sampling test will be conducted, possibly tonight itself. The probe agency is planning to record 12 distinct voice samples from Bhadra which will be then forwarded to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL). The aim is to compare these voice samples with the phone recordings in possession of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) team in the cash-for-school-jobs scandal. This is to be noted that ED, which was trying to collect voice samples of Sujoy Krishna Bhadra since July 14 last, faced hurdles one after another in the process.
Earlier on Wednesday, in an unforeseen turn of events, a medical expert from the ESI Hospital made an appearance during a closed-door session of the case at the Calcutta High Court. The purpose was to update a single-judge bench about the anticipated timeline for conducting the voice sampling test involving Sujoy Krishna Bhadra.
What is voice sampling test?
The voice test procedure of Sujoy Bhadra is known as a frequency test. To complete the precidure, Bhadra will have to produce his voice in various pitches, ranging from high to low tones or by altering his mouth’s position. A specialized medical team at Joka ESI, including a psychologist, cardiologist, ENT specialist, psychiatrist, and another critical care expert, are supervising the processes. Additionally, an ensemble from SSKM Hospital has accompanied the Enforcement Directorate (ED) team to oversee this critical phase of the investigation.
Who is Sujay Krishna Bhadra?
In June 2023, Sujay Krishna Bhadra, aged 61, faced arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) following a rigorous 12-hour interrogation. Bhadra was accused of sharing admit cards, candidate details, and names in exchange for monetary benefits with a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader for securing jobs in schools. The name of Bhadra as of the person involved in the alleged scam emerged during the interrogation of Tapas Mondal, another individual arrested in the teachers’ recruitment scandal in West Bengal. Following his name being linked to the jobs scam, Sujoy Krishna Bhadra addressed the media and denied any involvement in illicit activities or irregularities. However, he admitted that he sued work in association with TMC’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.
