Jharkhand: Amidst growing speculation and claims by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren is rumored to resign from his position, paving the way for his wife, Kalpana Soren, to take over. This development follows the resignation of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MLA Sarfaraz Ahmed.

Why the high possibility of Hemant Soren’s arrest?
Sources suggest that Hemant Soren is contemplating resignation due to the ongoing investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) into a corruption case. There are concerns within the JMM leadership that the ED might move to arrest Soren. In response to this perceived threat, the JMM executive president is said to be planning to hand over the leadership to his wife.
ED’s fresh summons to Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued fresh summons to Hemant Soren, marking the seventh time in the Prevention of Money Laundering Act case.
The agency’s notice states, “Since you have not come to the office of the Directorate of Enforcement in obedience to the summonses issued to you, we are giving you this last opportunity to record your statement.”
Soren had previously sought legal recourse, approaching both the Supreme Court and Jharkhand High Court against the ED’s summons, but his petitions were rejected. He accuses the Centre of using investigative agencies to target Opposition leaders ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The ED’s investigation centers around a “huge racket of illegal change of ownership of land by the mafia” in Jharkhand, leading to the arrest of fourteen individuals.
