“The man lived in forest for 14 years, where he would have got vegetarian food in jungles!”
Mumbai: NCP leader and Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Jitendra Awhad sparked controversy on Wednesday by calling Lord Ram a ‘Meat Eater’. “The man lived in forest for 14 years, where he would have got vegetarian food in jungles,” Awhad said while addressing a rally in Nashik’s Shirdi. Jitendra Awhad made this remark in the presence of NCP Chief Sharad Pawar.
What did Jitendra Awhad say?
The Sharad Pawar Camp MLA Jitendra Awhad on the first day of NCP party meeting in Shirdi said, “Lord Ram belongs to the minorities. Lord Ram who used to got for hunting, belongs to us. People want us to turn us vegan but Lord Ram was a nonvegetarian. We follow the ideals of Ram. He lived in the forest for 14 years, where he would have got vegetarian food in jungles. Isn’t it true? Whatever I said is the truth.”
Ahwad’s statement hurts Hindu sentiments: BJP
Bhartiya Janata Party came out all guns blazing and condemned the statement made by Jitendra Awhad. Ram Kadam, BJP MLA from Ghatkopar, said, “Jitendra Awhad called Lord Ram a meat eater. Where is this research coming from? Just because you have to insult crores of Ram disciples, you’ll play with the sentiments of Hindus. Where is Uddhav Thackeray ? Why is he quiet? Why doesn’t he question the Sharad Pawar camp leaders?”
“Whatever is happening is pre-planned. So be it Congress, Sharad Pawar or Uddhav Thackeray, they all are the people who are against of the construction of Ram Temple and hence time and again they’re making statements against the Ram Mandir. Today, they have in fact crossed the limit by calling him a meat eater. Don’t they fruits, vegetables, and Kandmul are also available in the forests. They’re aware of everything but they want to upset Hindus as their votebank politics. Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray should clarify their stand on this. If they don’t condemn, then the Lord Ram disciples of Maharashtra should show them their place,” he added.
