Mega opposition meet for ‘unity’ in Patna ahead of 2024 lok sabha election

Published:

A significant Opposition gathering, hosted by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, took place in Patna. This meeting aimed to strategize and devise a plan for forming an anti-BJP front for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The Opposition picked Patna as a venue for its meeting as it represents the 1974 call of ‘total revolution’ by Jayaprakash Narayan that toppled Indira Gandhi’s majority government.

Attended by 27 political parties, including the Congress, AAP, NCP, TMC, and others, the meeting commenced at 11:30 am. Ahead of the gathering, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed confidence that the united Opposition would defeat the BJP in the 2024 general elections.

He contrasted the Congress’s “Bharat Jodo” ideology with the BJP and RSS’s “Bharat Todo” ideology. Responding to the opposition meeting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized it as a mere “photo session.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah swiped at the Opposition meeting, expressing his criticism on Friday. “There is a photo session going on in Patna with all the Opposition leaders assembling at one platform to send a message that they will challenge Narendra Modi,” Shah said, addressing a public rally at Jammu’s Bhagwati Nagar. “Jitne bhi haath mila lo, apki ekta sambhav nahi. Even if they unite, the Narendra Modi government is sure to return with more than 300 seats during the 2024 general elections,” he added.
