Biden will not lecture Modi on human rights: Pentagon

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to America. Narendra Modi reached Washington on Wednesday. During this, PM Modi will meet President Joe Biden on Thursday. Before the meeting, the US security advisor said that President Joe Biden would talk to the PM on the issue of human rights.

National Security Advisor Jack Sulvin told on Wednesday that PM, Modi and President Joe Biden will discuss the issue of human rights. We do this publicly. We do this in private. We do this in a way that doesn’t sound like we’re trying to lecture or claim that we don’t have these kinds of challenges.

India and the US are set to start negotiations on two revolutionary deals – Security of Supply Arrangement (Sosa) and Reciprocal Defense Procurement Agreement (RDP). In such a situation, the Pentagon has said that after the completion of the talks, the defence industries of the two countries will work together.

Under the RDP, Indian entrepreneurs will be able to enter into US Department of Defense procurement contracts and US businesses will be able to enter into procurement contracts in India, while under SOSA, the DoD will be able to place Indian orders for US equipment. The Pentagon has said that the US has full faith in the diversification of military equipment by India. Washington’s proposal will firmly link the defence industries of the two countries.

The partnership will grow stronger

Lisa Curtis, an official in the Trump administration, said Modi’s visit would strengthen the partnership between the two countries. He said the visit also underscores the importance the Biden administration attaches to New Delhi’s role in challenging China’s expansion in the region.

Couldn’t be a more important partner than India: White House

The White House said on Wednesday that India will be an important strategic partner for the US in the coming decades. US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will host Modi for a state dinner on Thursday.

John Kirby, National Security Council coordinator for strategic communications, said there couldn’t be a more important partner than India in building AI, quantum computing, and semiconductors supply chains. Kirby said India’s commitment to a more active international role, including the Indo-Pacific Quad, reflects India’s intention to defend, together with the US, a shared vision of a free, open and rules-based global order.
