Increase in number of malnourished children

Kabul’s Indira Gandhi Children’s Hospital has noticed a recent increase in the number of malnourished children receiving treatment at the hospital. According to doctors, 45 malnourished children have been admitted to the hospital in the last two weeks.

Mohammad Sherzad, a doctor, said: “Patients who are having health issues, we are hospitalising them. Patients who do not have any health issues but are just malnourished, we do not admit them to the hospital. We give them necessary material and send them to clinics till they get well.”

Based on official figures, 59 children (March 22, 2023, to April 22), 94 children in Saur (April 23 to May 23), and 84 children in Jawza (May 24 to June), TOLO News reported. And currently, 45 children are malnourished. Has been admitted to Indira Gandhi Children’s Hospital throughout the month. The families of the children said that they could not feed their children properly due to poverty and unemployment.

Ekram Ullah, suffering from malnutrition, has been admitted to the Indira Gandhi Children’s Hospital. Ekramullah’s mother said that her child is malnourished due to economic challenges and a lack of food.

His mother, Gul Sang, said: “I have no money. How can I provide her good food.’ ‘I don’t have money to take care of (her). They need good food and other care. I do not have the capacity to provide anything to (him). Whatever is cheap, I buy for them because poverty is on the rise,” said Shazia, mother of one child.
