Russian factory explosion near Moscow, 1 dead, 50 injured

An explosion at a plant in the Sergiev Posad area northeast of the Russian capital, Moscow has been reported, killing one person and injuring more than 50 others. According to the Russian news agency Tass, the condition of many people injured in the explosion is serious, and many of their bodies are badly burned.

According to media reports, the explosion took place at 10:40 p.m. (local time) in a warehouse that was used to make fireworks. At least 52 people required medical attention after the blast, and eight were hospitalized. According to the Tass report, part of the complex of the Zagorsk Optical and Mechanical Plant was affected by the explosion.

The explosion was so strong that windows in nearby houses were shattered. As per reports, relief and rescue operations are underway at the accident site. Rescue workers are clearing the debris. At the same time, the investigation committee has registered a criminal case for violation of industrial safety standards.

At the same time, the Russian army carried out an airstrike on the city of Zaporizhia in Ukraine on Wednesday. Two people died and seven others were injured. Ukraine’s Interior Minister, Ihor Klimenko, said that three people were initially reported dead.

But police paramedics, with the help of doctors, later saved one person. He said rescue workers quickly doused the fire in the outer building. The police conducted door-to-door investigations in residential buildings. No one was found dead or injured. Those injured were outside at the time of the attack.
