Make My Trip collabs with Ministry of Tourism

Make My Trip made an announcement that it has collaborated with the Ministry of Tourism to launch the ‘Traveller’s Map of India’. The online travel company initiated this new initiative to let travellers explore the diverse and unique places in India on the occasion of Indian Independence Day.

The Traveller’s Map of India is a microsite that has been developed as an interactive platform for travellers and will help the travel enthusiasts to identify and delve deeper into more diverse destinations. The main purpose of the Traveller’s Map of India is to help users to discover the offbeat tourism gems of our country and showcases over 600 destinations in India that are beyond the popular and mainstream tourism places of India.

This microsite has been developed in line with the Government of India’s ‘dekho mera desh’ programme which contributes to supporting the immense potential of domestic tourism. In a press release, the online travel company added how this powerful instrument for socio-economic development also contributes to the multifactoral growth of the country’s economy.

“We welcome MakeMyTrip’s initiative to showcase diverse destinations of India and to promote domestic tourism”, said Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Tourism.  He further added, “We invite more such initiatives to realise our collective dream of showcasing our country to the world.”

Make My Trip researched the travel search history of India to finalise the curated shortlist of destinations. According to the online travel company, Lakhs of users use MakeMyTrip each and every day and based on popular searched and must-see destinations, MakeMyTrip selected only those places that are offbeat and lesser known among the masses. To develop the Traveller’s Map of India, these travel places have been categorised using tags such as adventure, beaches, heritage, mountains, wildlife, and more. Also, these tags are to help travel enthusiasts plan trips to their favourite travel genres.

Rajesh Magow, Co-Founder & Group CEO of MakeMyTrip shared that the Traveller’s Map of India reflects the voice of almost every Indian traveller which makes it aptly commemorative of Independence Day, according to the press release.
