Sikhs for Justice threatens Indian-origin Hindus, warns them to leave Canada

Published:

Pro-Khalistan organisation ‘Sikhs for Justice’ which was banned in India back in 2019 has threatened Indian-origin Hindus   and has warned them to leave Canada for supporting India and for ‘promoting violence’ by celebrating the death of Khalistani leader and designated terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

“Indo-Hindu leave Canada; go to India. You not only support India but you are also supporting the suppression of speech and expression of pro-Khalistan Sikhs,” said SFJ’s legal counsel Gurpatwant Pannu in a video, which has gone viral. Pannu has been designated as a terrorist in India.

The video has surfaced after the Canadian PM Justin Trudeau claimed that there is some link between the Indian government agents and the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar which has resulted in a tit-for-tat move of expelling senior diplomats of each country. India has vehemently opposed the allegations calling them absurd and motivated after which Trudeau insisted that Canada was not looking to provoke or escalate the issue with India. SFJ has also said that it feels emboldened by the Trudeau government’s recent actions of disengaging with India.

Violence towards Indian-origin Hindus and Sikhs who support India.

In the recent months Hindus in Canada have witnessed at least a dozen cases of desecration of temples with graffiti and anti-India poster led by the leaders of the SFJ and Khalistan sympathisers associated with the Khalistan referendum in Canada. A petition has been pending before the Canadian House of Commons to recognise Hinduphobia in the glossary of terms in the Human Rights Code to describe anti-Hindu prejudice and discrimination which has so far gathered nearly 9000 signatures. Justin Trudeau has also been alleged of giving a free ride to Khalistani extremists in Canada and not taking any action against them in spite of their repetitive acts of intolerance and violence towards Indian-origin Hindus and Sikhs who support India.

Vijay Jain, a spokesperson for Canadian Hindus for Harmony, expressed concern over Pannu’s threat. “We are now seeing full-scale Hinduphobia out across the board.” Jain said Trudeau’s remarks about India’s alleged involvement in Nijjar’s killing may stoke the sentiment and encourage Khalistani action against Hindus in Canada. “We are worried that this may translate into the loss of Canadian Hindu lives as in 1985.”

Vijay Jain referred to the Khalistani bombing of an Air India Montreal-London–Delhi–Bombay flight in June 1985, which killed 307 passengers and 22 crew members on board, making it one of the worst terrorist attack in Canadian history. Canada on June 23, every year observes the National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism in memory of those killed in the bombing.

In a post on social media platform X, commentator Rupa Subramanya questioned inaction over Pannun’s threat. “If a white supremacist had threatened saying all people of colour must leave Canada, imagine the uproar. Yet when a Khalistani threatens Hindus in Canada at an event in Canada, everyone bats their eyelid and looks the other way.”

Canadian minister Anita Anand, who is a Hindu, appealed for calm. In a post on X, Anand said South Asians and families who come from India, regardless of religion, will share the sentiment that it was difficult to hear Trudeau’s statement on Monday. “This is a time to let the legal process continue as it must. Let us all remain calm, unified, and empathetic.”
